What is a School-Parent Compact?

Updated May 5, 2025 — A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards. Effective compacts:

Link to goals of the school improvement plan
Focus on student learning skills
Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction
Share strategies parents can use at home
Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

The parents, students, and staff of New Hope Elementary School developed this School-Parent Compact for Achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Meetings are held
annually to review the Compact and make changes based on student needs.

Goals for Student Achievement

District Goals

Goal 1: Increase the WCS graduation rate from 91.13% to 93.13% over the next three years for all students.
Goal 2: Reduce the achievement gap(s) in English Language Arts & Mathematics.
Goal 3: To increase the capacity of all WCS teachers and leaders to enhance student learning through evidence-based professional learning.

School Goals and Focus Areas
New Hope Elementary administrators and teachers have studied our student performance data to determine the most important areas of improvement for our school.

Goal 1: During the 2025-2026 school year, 100 % of certified staff will participate in
professional learning to support and improve student achievement.
Goal 2: During the 2025-2026 school year, 100 % of certified staff will analyze student
data in order to enhance student growth.
Goal 3: During the 2025-2026 school year, 100% of staff will foster social emotional
learning in order to support students and the school community.

Kindergarten

Teacher/School Responsibilities

Kindergarten teachers will work with students and their families to achieve student
success in the areas of reading, math, writing, and learning & life skills. Teachers will support student learning through:
Reading: Providing reading materials that meet the needs of each student.
Math: Providing hands-on experiences in math and weekly updates on what is
taught.
Writing: Providing handwriting
guidelines that follow lessons in the classroom.
Learning & Life Skills: Providing tips and techniques on self regulation.

Family Responsibilities at Home

Support at home is key to each student reaching their goals in reading, math, writing, and learning & life skills. Listed below are a few ideas families and teachers have developed together to complete at
home to help students be successful.
Reading: READ with my child EVERY night.
Math: Reinforce math topics weekly at home that are listed on the newsletter.
Writing: Help my child practice writing
letters, words, and sentences.
Learning & Life Skills: Reinforce techniques implemented at school to help self regulate emotions and behaviors.

Student Responsibilities

Students will work to reach their goals through the following methods:
Reading: Reading a book with a parent or guardian each night.
Math: Talk to family members about what is being learned in math and complete “fun”, hands on learning ideas suggested on newsletters.
Writing: Practice writing letters, words, and sentences at home.
Learning & Life Skills: Build positive relationships, be responsible and respectful to teachers, friends, family members, and school materials.

1st Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

First Grade teachers will work with students and their families to achieve student success
in the areas of reading, math, writing, and
learning & life skills. Teachers will support student learning through:
Reading: Providing reading materials that meet the needs of each student.
Math: Providing hands-on experiences in math and updates weekly on what is
taught.
Writing: Providing topics weekly on the newsletter to discuss and write about.
Learning & Life Skills: Providing tips
and techniques on self regulation.

Family Responsibilities at Home

Support at home is key to each student reaching their goals in reading, math, writing, and learning & life skills. Listed
below are a few ideas parents and teachers have developed together to complete at
home to help students be successful.

Learning & Life Skills: Build positive relationships, be responsible and respectful to teachers, friends, family members, and school materials.

3rd Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

Third Grade teachers will work with students and their families to achieve student success in the areas of reading, math,
writing, and learning & life skills. Teachers will support student learning through:
Reading: Providing reading materials that meet the needs of each student and
phonics/word study/spelling practice.
Math: Providing hands-on experiences in math, practice multiplication facts, and
unit updates on what is taught.
Writing: Providing cursive writing guidelines and writing practice in different genres.
Learning & Life Skills: Providing tips
and techniques on self-regulation.

Family Responsibilities at Home

Support at home is key to each student reaching their goals in reading, math, writing, and learning & life skills. Listed
below are a few ideas parents and teachers have developed together to complete at
home to help students be successful.
Reading: My child will read each night independently, or orally, and parents will
discuss the reading with them.
Math: Review addition-subtraction-multiplication-division facts. Practice telling time and rounding numbers.
Writing: Help my child practice writing and spelling phonics skills. Practice cursive
writing.
Learning & Life Skills: Reinforce techniques implemented at school to help
self regulate emotions and behaviors.

Student Responsibilities

Students will work to reach their goals through the following methods:
Reading: Reading a book each night for 20 minutes.

Learning & Life Skills: Build positive relationships, be responsible and respectful to teachers,

4th Grade

Fourth Grade teachers will work with students and their families to achieve student
success in the areas of reading, math, writing, and learning & life skills. Teachers will support student learning through:

phonics/word study/spelling practice.
Math: Providing hands-on experiences in math, practice multiplication facts, and
unit updates on what is taught.
Writing: Providing cursive writing guidelines and writing practice in different genres.
Learning & Life Skills: Providing tips and techniques on self regulation.

Keep Infinite Campus updated
Utilize spiral review throughout the year
Provide timely feedback to students & parents
